Tuesday Dec 11 Chem 112-We went over more work from 8.1, 8.2, (sigma bonds and pi bonds. We compared the following ionic, molecular, dispersion forces like dipole, dispersion and hydrogen bonds.) and a VSEPR review.
Chem 112- We went over polar/nonpolar/sigma/pi bonding/ intermolecular forces like van der waals forces, dispersion forces and hydrogen bonding as well as comparing the strength of the intermolecular forces with actual bonds by examining mica. You did some group review.
Reminder: You have a test on Unit 5 on tuesday. Please make sure you make up a study sheet for this chapter using the guide that I have given you. I will post solutions to bottom right side of VSEPR handout tomorrow early in the day.

We completed the assignment on predicting reactions and using diagnostic test tables. You were given some time to work on the pre=lab. I also went over titration and the terminology. We start labs tomorrow. Today the Solvay Process assignment is due. Do not forget the pre-lab assignment.
Chem 122-I did a homework check on the green sheet #2 and #3 today. We will go over phenyl, benzyl and isomers ortho, meta and para for benzene. I also gave you a list of some common functional groups to study. Period 2- 22.5 is due tomorrow. Period 3- 19.4 is due tomorrow.

You will also start an assignment on the Solvay Process today. This will involve working with a partner to research this process and find the information for it. Each person will design a pamphlet for this that informs someone about the Solvay Process.

Solvay Process assignment: Make an information pamphlet on the Solvay Process which informs someone about the Solvay Process and how important it is to every day life. It should be colourful creative, neat and make someone want to read it. Use pictures/ diagrams and show the history, the process and products, byproducts and list references on the back. 1-Today we went over titration terminology and spent more time on stoichiometry
2-We will do a prelab for the second set of labs. You will see a titration demo.
3-Reminder YOu have been assigned sheet 7 and 8 from the mole sheet, 1,2,4 from the stoichiometry sheet and 7,8 on Lewis electron dot and structural diuagrams. This should all be ready for after labs.
4-Prelab needs to be ready for day 1 of labs and stoichiometry brochure is due on Friday.

For question #7 and 8 FROM PURPLE SHEET--> please write the word polar or NON POLAR.
On the thursday before labs you were assigned #7(structural diagrams) and 8 from the Gravimetric Stoichiometry Worksheet. The answers will be checked for this. It gave you practise with lewis dot diagrams and structural diagrams
We also worked on some isomers for C6H6....

Chem 112- We will work on completing the theory for unit 5 this week(please notice that unit 5 is being done before unit 4). Note: Unit 5 covers ch 8 and 12 We went over some VSEPR...we went over linear, trigonal planar, pyramidal, tetrahedral, polar and non-polar.
Please try questions 1-6 from the pink worksheet on the shapes. I went over #7 and part of #8 from the worksheet from homework.

Chem 112- Today we will do two more VSEPR shapes with trigonal bipyramid and octahedral. You will receive a few more questions to go over on VSEPR from the handout. Please make sure that you spend some time each evening working on review for the text next monday. You had a stoichiometry quiz today. We overviewed 8.1, 8.2 today.(Coordinate covalent bonds,bond dissociation energy, resonance)

Chem 112-We went over more work from 8.1, 8.2, (sigma bonds and pi bonds. We compared the following ionic, molecular, dispersion forces like dipole, dispersion and hydrogen bonds.) and a VSEPR review.

Chem 112- We went over polar/nonpolar/sigma/pi bonding/ intermolecular forces like van der waals forces, dispersion forces and hydrogen bonding as well as comparing the strength of the intermolecular forces with actual bonds by examining mica. You did some group review.
Reminder: You have a test on Unit 5 on tuesday. Please make sure you make up a study sheet for this chapter using the guide that I have given you. I will post solutions to bottom right side of VSEPR handout tomorrow early in the day.

Chem 112-PRE-LAB must be completed to start labs.
We completed the assignment on predicting reactions and using diagnostic test tables. You were given some time to work on the pre=lab. I also went over titration and the terminology. We start labs tomorrow.
Today the Solvay Process assignment is due. Do not forget the pre-lab assignment.
Chem 122-I did a homework check on the green sheet #2 and #3 today. We will go over phenyl, benzyl and isomers ortho, meta and para for benzene. I also gave you a list of some common functional groups to study. Period 2- 22.5 is due tomorrow. Period 3- 19.4 is due tomorrow.
Period 3 and 2 Graphing assignment is due on monday.
There will be a test on wednesday or thursday of next week.
Please do entire left hand side of naming worksheet for homework for monday.
